12 DIY house cleaners that you will never need to buy again

No matter how much emphasis is made on the commercial house cleaners through media and advertisement—reality is—they have better or equivalent DIY substitutes. Your kitchen and bathroom cleaners don’t necessarily have to be full of bright colours or unnatural scents.

DIY cleaners are not harsh or toxic. The best part: you know what’s in there. The ideal kitchen cleaners necessarily don’t need to have tons of ingredients. So what you need is to have some ingredients and basic level tools.

Today, I will be sharing some of my very famous DIY house cleaners that I have been using from the last few years. They fact that they are tried and tested from a such a long time, you can confidently make and use them at your home.

I have divided my read into a few sections. So first, I will start with the Kitchen cleaners, because we all want our sinks and countertops to glister and shine.

Kitchen cleaners

I will be sharing six of my best kitchen cleaners. They are extremely affordable and effective to use. Commercial brands are charging extensively for their colourful and finely packed products. Give these cleaners a try, you will love them!

1. Marble and Granite Spray

Marble and granite kitchen countertops aren’t cheap, and special care is required to keep them clean. It’s necessary that your countertop sprays don’t have any acidic ingredients as it can damage the stone through dissolution and alteration.

This stone cleaner will do wonders to your kitchen marble and granite. Check out the ingredients required.

Ingredients:

1 ½ cups water
3 tablespoon rubbing alcohol
1 teaspoon dish soap

The last Ingredient isn’t necessary unless you want your spray to smell like dish soap. You can easily add some natural scents to your sprays. I like fruity and floral flavours for my cleaners. You can add some if you want to.

Tools you need:

Measuring spoon
Measuring cup
A funnel to transfer the water and alcohol mixture to the spray bottle.
Spray bottle

Next time you go for groceries, Skip the cleaners sections and get yourself lots of spray bottles. Shake the spray bottle whenever you want to use it.

2. Sink Scrub

I don’t want my stainless steel kitchen utensils and sink to lose their shine. Whenever I am done with cleaning the dishes, and my sink is empty, I use this sink scrub. It’s perfect for removing stains and to let your sink shine up.

Ingredients:

2 cups baking soda
10 drops clove essential oil
10 drops lemon essential oil
Dish soap (you only add this to the scrub separately during use

Tools you need:

A container to store the scrub. It could be a shaker top or a lid, both work fine
Sink safe scrub brush

How to use?

Mix the baking soda and the essential oil in the jar
Stir with a kitchen knife.
Whenever you need to use it, sprinkle the scrub liberally in the sink
Add some dish soap over the top
Use he sink-safe scrubber to avoid scratches
Rinse throughly

3. All-purpose spray

The last one from the kitchen cleaners is the all-purpose spray. When it comes to cleaning anything else than the marble and granite kitchen countertops, you can use this all-purpose spray. The reason why you can’t use this spray over stones is because of the acidity/PH level of the spray.

Check out these simple ingredients:

½ cup white synthetic vinegar
1 ¼ cups of water
10 drops of any of your favourite essential oils. Lemon oils are great. They improve the efficacy of your spray and leaves a nice smell afterwards.

Now that we are done with the kitchen cleaners, lets move on to some miscellaneous cleaners that we all need during everyday house cleaning.

4. Grease cleaner

I like to bake and grill a lot, so grease is something that I have to come across quite often. This grease cleaner is perfect for cleaning grills and oven hoods.

Ingredients:

½ cup sudsy ammonia
Fill in with enough water to make 5 Litres

How to use?

Separate a portion as required, dip a mop and wipe over the grill. Clean mop with a mop or rinse through water.

5. Cloth stain remover

Every mother has been striving to discover the best cloth stain removal in the world. But alas! There isn’t a magic stain remover that exists. However, this DIY cleaner is the closest to what you can call the last-resort cleaner.

Note: This for bleach-able garments only.

Ingredients:

5 Litres of hot water
I cup liquid chlorine bleach
I cup dishwasher detergent (powdered)

How to use?

Mix the ingredients in stainless plastic, enamel bowl (not aluminum) or stainless steel bowl. Soak your stained garment into the solution for around 15-20 minutes. If the stain doesn’t go away completely, let it soak for some more time.

6. White ring remover

So this one needs a special place inside my home because of my mahogany furniture. Though I take a lot of care with the kind of stuff to place over my wooden furniture, my little kids aren’t as stringent as I am. So what I am left with is tons of water rings over my antiques and unfinished wood.

Removing the white rings is very easy. All you need is to have one part baking soda and add it to one part non-gel toothpaste (white).

How to use?

Dampen a cloth with some water. Make sure it’s damp and not wet. Add the baking soda and tooth mixture on the cloth and gently rub over the ring. The stain will go away very quickly. Wipe the mixture off with a dry cloth. Polish your furniture as you would normally do.
