about

Pineapple leather

Pineapple Leather is a sustainable natural textile made from the fibres of pineapple leaves. The leaves are the by-product of an existing industry no additional land, water, fertilisers or pesticides need to be used, so the raw material has a very low environmental impact compared to other textile crops.

Unlike traditional leather production which is very toxic to both tannery workers and the environment, the production process for Pineapple Leather does not involve any harmful chemicals.

Pineapple Leather provides an additional, stable income stream to pineapple farmers who otherwise face the challenges of seasonal employment, and aims to support positive social and economic development within farming communities.

Pineapple Leather is a vegan product and no animal by-product is used at any stage of the production

Care of Pineapple Leather

Like anything natural, Pineapple leather will evolve as it ages and products Made from Pineapple Leather require some care to keep them in top condition.

We recommend you gently wax products with a natural wax (colourless, such as Barbour wax for bags and jackets, and coloured in the appropriate tint) when the surface needs to be refreshed.

Rub wax on sparingly with a soft cloth. You may find that leaving the product in a warm place for 24 hours will help the wax absorb.

We also recommend using Liquiproof Protector™, a natural non-toxic coating that will make the product stain and water repellent.
